In 1979, a tragic incident unfolded in the village of Rudravanam. Venkata Chalapathy and his wife faced brutal assault, abduction, and immolation by the enraged villagers. These villagers believed that the couple’s eerie rituals, involving black magic, were responsible for several deaths in the community. As the dying woman gasped her last breath, she placed a curse upon Rudravanam, foretelling the village’s impending doom within twelve years.
Left orphaned by this calamity, the couple’s young son, Bhairava, found refuge in an orphanage. The village’s Sarpanch, Harishchandra Prasad, ensured Bhairava’s admission, perhaps hoping to shield him from the ominous fate that hung over Rudravanam .
Directed by Karthik Varma Dandu (with a screenplay penned by Sukumar), Virupaksha is a gripping horror film. From the outset, it establishes an atmosphere of unease, warning viewers that it won’t be an easy ride due to its ample gore.
